The paranormal community is divided on whether the Exorcism is being aired for educational or entertainment value.

“From an entertainment perspective, I think many will be glued to their TVs during the LIVE two-hour broadcast to see what will happen. The paranormal community, however, is coming unglued with conflicting emotions as to the dangers and discoveries to be made on a live broadcast. It will be interesting to see how it plays out,” George Lopez, author of the book, “In A Flicker“, co-written with Andrea Perron.×90&×250%2C300x600%2C0x0%2C740x280&nras=3&correlator=6891626912076&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1861821579.1626704360&ga_sid=1626704360&ga_hid=383789286&ga_fc=0&u_tz=330&u_his=11&u_java=0&u_h=768&u_w=1366&u_ah=728&u_aw=1366&u_cd=24&u_nplug=3&u_nmime=4&adx=475&ady=1959&biw=1349&bih=600&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=42530671%2C31060566%2C21067496&oid=3&pvsid=1589333185212481&pem=754&!5&btvi=4&fsb=1&xpc=vMAt0Ijs1F&p=https%3A//

Why are they are going into this particular house? This is a house where Roland Doe resided for some time during his documented exorcisms in the late 1940s. If you’re not familiar with the name, Roland was the influence of the book that eventually turned into one of the most famous horror movies of all time, The Exorcist.

The story is that a boy (documented under the pseudonym “Roland Doe”) was given a Ouija board by his aunt who was a spiritualist when Roland expressed some interest in it. He was only 14 at the time and started exhibiting strange behavior soon after using the board. When Roland lived in this particular home, things became worse and a team of Jesuit priests were called in to perform a series of exorcisms. The case is one of the most well known documented cases but also controversial as some people would later claim Roland was mentally ill and some even called him a trickster.

Whether it’s fact or fiction, rumors soon spread that the home is still haunted by a dark presence and investigators have traveled from all over to investigate this home in search of the truth.

“I think its just another Halloween entertainment show that some producer from a cable channel has put together. Its been investigated before by Ghost Adventures for their 100th episode and nothing out of the ordinary happened other than Zak seemed to feel a bit funny and claimed to feel ill, which seems to happen every 3rd episode,” said Mike Boler, Cohost of Prime Time Paranormal on Dead Air Paranormal Radio, founder of The “Paranormal Channel” on YouTube and renowned “paranormal skeptic”.

“I think the idea that an exorcism will be performed by Bishop James Long live on the show is the train wreck needed to bring what Destination America is hoping will be a large audience on the eve of Halloween. They have kind of covered up that the exorcism will be on the house and not an actual person which most without researching will not know is the plan. Keep in mind the Exorcism House has been occupied by a family for years that has no history of issues or events that can be tied to paranormal activity. Why would something very similar to a Halloween party with cameras all of the sudden summon up demons from the past?” replied Boler.

Although many viewers may be expecting an exorcism similar to what they have seen in the horror movies, this exorcism is what is called a Minor Rite of Exorcism which is performed on an object, which in this case a home and not a person.

Bishop James Long, a Presiding Archbishop of the United States Old Catholic Church will be performing the Minor Rite of Exorcism. He explains in further detail what this means here in a video:

“I have spoken to every single producer and director who is involved and I will tell you that their heart is in the right direction,” Long explains in the video. “they want to gather evidence and they want to cleanse the house.”

“These guys intentions are pure, they are solid and I trust them,” he further stated.
