VIDEO: New ‘Star Trek’ TV Series Trailer
CBS has revealed the trailer for their new “Star Trek” series premiering next January.
New characters will be introduced “seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966,” CBS said in a statement.
“Star Trek” celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time. It was the brain child of Gene Roddenberry and debuted on September 8th, 1966.
“Everyone here has great respect for this storied franchise, and we’re excited to launch its next television chapter in the creative mind and skilled hands of Alex Kurtzman, someone who knows this world and its audience intimately,” said David Stapf, President of CBS Television Studios.
Kurtzman will serve as executive producer. He co-wrote and produced the blockbuster films “Star Trek” (2009) and “Star Trek Into Darkness” (2013), both produced and directed by J.J. Abrams.
There’s a lot of hype for the 50th anniversary. Not only will the new television series debut early 2017, but a feature film “Star Trek Beyond” is scheduled to be distributed by Paramount Pictures this summer.
