Astronauts Make Huge Sacrifices for Year-long Mission

Astronaut Scott Kelly Takes a Space Selfie from the International Space Station. (Scott Kelly/NASA) Astronauts Make Huge Sacrifices during Year-Long Mission Imagine being trapped in one place for an entire year. You’re not allowed to leave. The lighting never changes. The smells and sounds are the same. You can’t even step outside for a breath of fresh air. This is your home. This is your life. For an entire year. That’s pretty much what American astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko have been experiencing for the past six months on the International Space Station. Twice as Long in Space As...

Elon Musk to Launch 4,000 Satellites for Rural Internet?

Elon Musk Plans to Launch 4,000 Satellites for Rural Internet Access By 2020, Billionaire philanthropist and entrepreneur Elon Musk plans to launch around 4,000 satellites to bring internet access to the most remote areas on Earth, according to an FCC filing, Monday. Musk’s flotilla will launch through his company SpaceX into slow-moving low orbits of approximately 650 kilometers to improve issues of latency which other Satellite internet providers face. His eventual goal is to improve connections between Earth and sistering Mars colonization projects, but he’s facing some opposition. 21st Century Space Race? Astronauts Drink Coffee Made From…WHAT?

Astronauts Drink Coffee Made From…WHAT? The cost to transport drinking water to space used to cost around $15,000 per pint, so engineers got to work. In an effort to reduce excess waste and weight, NASA started a recycling program aboard the International Space Station. A purification system was implemented, and by 2009, Astronauts were recycling their own waste, turning it into potable drinking water. Earlier this year, ESA Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti brought on-board the ISSpresso machine, a promising new contraption that would bring ‘real coffee’ to station crew members. How is it made? According to NASA and Italian Space Agency operational...

Mogensen will become the first Danish Astronaut in Space 0

Denmark Sending First Astronaut Into Space

First Dane In Space Today, Denmark is preparing to send their first astronaut into space on Wednesday. Andreas Mogensen will lift off at 0437 GMT (12:37 a.m. EDT) accompanied by Russian Sergei Volkov and Kazakh Aidyn Aimbetov on ESA’s 10-day “sprint” mission. Mogensen will be bringing with him a Danish-engineered exercise bike equipped with heart rate monitors and force testing pedals. This new biotechnology will give us feedback about the direct effects of exercise in the International Space Station’s microgravity environments. His mission will be short and is scheduled to last for approximately 10 days. According to the European Space Agency, this has been...
