Blue Dwarf Galaxy Located 30 Million Light-Years Away

An astonishing new discovery was recently published in the Astrophysical Journal, where astronomers found a small blue galaxy located 30 million light-years away, which has the smallest fraction  of heavy elements ever seen in a galaxy. Professor John J. Salzer, of Indiana University and senior author of the paper said “Finding the  most metal-poor galaxy ever is exciting since it could help contribute to a quantitative test of  the Big Bang,” suggesting that the material hasn’t changed much since and that very little star  formation has happened. However, Salzer goes on to explain, “There are relatively few ways to...

The Birthmark Of Earth Has Been Found In Canada

Geologists believe they have found the original “birthmark” of Earth…and it’s in Canada. University of Maryland Professor of Geology Richard Walker and his team have discovered a original material from the birth of Earth that was produced 50 million years ago and then never again. Researchers theorize that the mantle under Baffin Island off the coast of northern Canada did not experience the same tungsten-removing iron separation that the rest of the mantle experienced during the collisions that destroyed or homogenized the rest of early Earth. The previous belief was that any material from the planet’s original mantle was...

Frozen Planets May Get Second Chance At Life

Astronomers now believe that currently frozen planets may become habitable once our sun dies. A team from Cornell University in New York are suggesting that as our sun swells hundreds of times in size, they could warm up frozen planets and provide suitable conditions for life. According to Lisa Kaltenegger and her team, when our Sun starts to swell up into a red giant, the ‘goldilocks’ zone of our Solar System will shift from around Earth’s orbit to include the orbits of Jupiter and Saturn instead. Team member Ramses M. Ramirez explained “When a star ages and brightens, the...

The Europlanet 2020 Research Infrastructure Calls For Jupiter Watchers

A researcher with the French Astronomical Society has organized a group of amateur astronomers from all over the world, to watch for and report fireballs caused by meteors crashing into Jupiter. Sky-gazers from Australia, Europe, Japan, the United States and elsewhere have identified four  Jupiter fireball impacts since June 2010 so Marc Delcroix created the Europlanet 2020 Research Infrastructure, a collaborative research program sponsored by the European Union. His goal is to integrate and support planetary science activities throughout Europe. “Dramatic impacts with Jupiter can be captured with standard amateur equipment and analyzed with easy-to-use software,” Delcroix explained. “But...

Blind Man Sees Again After 40 Years Thanks To A Bionic Eye Transplant

A Texas man has had his vision restored after 40 years of blindness thanks to a bionic eye implant. John Jameson was born with perfect eyesight, but due to retina damage cause by infection and  further vision reduced by botched laser eye surgery this pea sized telescope was successfully implanted into his eye and astonishingly, he was able to read again clearly within 4 hours of the procedure. Jameson is one of only a handful of patients to receive the bionic eye since it was approved by  the FDA less than two years ago. The implantable miniature telescope itself...

Drake Equation Reinvented With Startling Results

Researchers have reinvented the 1961 Drake equation and came to the mathematical likelihood that the chances of humans on Earth being the only intelligent life in the universe is ten-billion-trillion to one. Researchers Adam Frank of the University of Rochester and Woodruff Sullivan the University of  Washington both respectively found that if you change the wording of the equation to ask if wither we “have been” the only intelligent life in the universe rather than “are we” the only intelligent life you get the astronomical answer that no, we could not have been the only ones ever. As Frank...

Astronomers Question Their Direction In The Search For Extra Terrestrial Life

Astronomers are torn as to which direction to look in the search for signals from intelligent  beings on distant worlds, Jupiter’s fourth largest moon Europa or Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. Despite Mars being most commonly associated with the exploration of extraterrestrial life, research shows the conditions would be extremely dry away from its polar caps, with the exception of ice trapped beneath its surface. A vast ocean is thought to exist beneath the frozen surface of Europa, and researchers suggest the salty oceans could harbor enough chemical energy to give rise to lifeforms. Steve Vance from the Jet Propulsion...

Dark Thirty Radio – May 19th, 2016

Tonight on “Dark Thirty” Radio Show   Astronomers Question Their Direction In The Search For Extra Terrestrial Life Astronomers are torn as to which direction to look in the search for signals from intelligent  beings on distant worlds, Jupiter’s fourth largest moon Europa or Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. A vast ocean is thought to exist beneath the frozen surface of Europa while Titan is covered in massive pools of hydrocarbons. Regardless, both Europa and Titan present wonderful possibilities for finding new lifeforms Source: Tech Times   Drake Equation Reinvented With Startling Results Researchers have reinvented the 1961 Drake equation and...

Evidence of Out-Of-Body Experiences Confirmed

In a stunning revelation from the University of Southampton, studies have now proven that human thoughts do not stop when the heart stops beating, as previously thought. Lead researcher Dr. Sam Parnia said: “Contrary to perception, death is not a specific moment, but a potentially reversible process that occurs after any severe illness or accident causes the heart, lungs and brain to cease functioning. In a study conducted of more than 2,000 people, Dr. Parnia believes it is now confirmed that awareness remains after the heart had stopped pumping blood throughout the body, providing convincing evidence of out-of-body experiences for...

Religious Experience Caught On EEG

Doctors in Israel have recorded the results of a man having a religious experience on an EEG, and what they saw was remarkable. The patient was in the hospital for tests for epilepsy, which he’s suffered from for 40 years.  He was advised by doctor to stop taking his medication before the appointment.  He was attached to an EEG machine at the time when he abruptly “froze” and stared at the ceiling for  several minutes, stating later that he felt that God was approaching him. The readings showed increased activity in the left prefrontal cortex right before the event, which...

Humans, Not Robots, Will Discover Life on Mars

NASA’s Chief Scientist Ellen Stofan said the only way to find evidence of life on Mars is to send real astronauts rather than robots and she aims to do just that by 2040. “We’re not looking for skeletons; we’re looking for fossil microbes if life on Mars did indeed go extinct.  And those are going to be hard to find,” she said. Being a geologist herself, Stofan points out that field geologists here on Earth can study rocks rich in fossil microbes but never see the tiny structures.  Therefore, she thinks robots won’t be able to do the job by...
