Man Catches Dog That Fell From 14th Floor
Destiny was at play yet again in Portland Oregon as a man in the right place at the right time opened his welcoming arms to catch an angel, or in this case a 5-year-old Bichon Frise named Mordy who had slipped off the 14th-story balcony of a Southwest Portland high rise.
First reported by Portland KGW, it was an uneventful late summer day in Portland Oregon when a man decided to look up, advice often given by Art himself, and noticed the Bichon Frise precariously perched on the outside of a protective railing on the 14th floor of the high rise. Portland resident Ted Nelson, aside from catching his breath after a slight startle, decided he would stick around just in case the unthinkable happened.
“I just looked up at it and it was looking at me and it landed right in my chest… caught it for a minute, kind of fell, it did hit the ground. It let out a yelp but it was a huge relief to hear it yelp,” said Nelson.
After catching the dog Nelson and his girlfriend took Mordy by the local Vet where he was cleared in good health, other than a few minor bruises.
Amazingly enough, this wasn’t the first time Nelson had to think fast to save an animal from that very high rise. About a year ago Nelson saw a cat stuck on the outside of another balcony railing and rushed inside to notify its owner before it was too late. In an serendipitous way, it was kind of practice for future events to come.
Now I know you’re saying, “There’s no way! An object that heavy, falling from that high would shattered his arms when caught”. I might go so far as to agree, but then again I’m no physicist.
In the end it’s a cautionary tale of why it’s a good reason to keep your eyes to the sky.
